One of the cornerstones of a civilized society is the provision of a fair, just, and efficient way for citizens to resolve conflicts that are an inevitable part of life. A court system is designed to do that, and the judges and staff of the Palau Judiciary are committed to the goal of making justice accessible to all who seek it. "The unified national judiciary created by Palau’s Constitution holds the power to decide all matters in law and equity". The judicial system draws upon aspects of the American-style courts that operated before Palau’s independence, yet remains a uniquely Palauan institution designed and run by and for Palauans. The Palau Judiciary aims to retain the wisdom of Palau’s proud traditions while at the same time incorporating methods that reflect Palau’s rapid modernization and increasing interactions with other nations.
