The Legend of Dirrengas

Dirrengas was the fourth highest-ranking woman in the state of Airai. She had the responsibility to mediate disputes and keep the peace. She was quite successful in these tasks, not because she possessed money or could wage war, but because she listened to the parties in each dispute and provided reasoned and fair orders. Her power came not from the spear or money bead, but from her judgment and tongue.
